RIP: Jon Long

UPDATE: The Long family will be hosting a funeral service for Jon today, April 27, at 3 p.m. at Grace Church on the Hill at 300 Lonsdale Road in Toronto with a reception to follow in the church hall.

Canadian Music Trade is sad to confirm the news that Jon Long has passed away. He was a much loved member of the Toronto music community, and the son of Long & McQuade co-founder Jack Long, as well as brother of Long & McQuade President Steve Long and VP Jeff Long. Jon was a longtime fixture of the Long & McQuade Bloor Street location in Toronto, as well as the city’s music clubs as a drummer and regular jam organizer.

Many memories of Jon have been flooding social media over the last couple of days.

“I was sad to hear about Jon Long. He was the manager of one of my bands back in the ‘80s. He was so much fun to work with, always with the big smile and boundless enthusiasm,” wrote Leanne Hayes on Jon’s Facebook page. “He made you believe anything was possible. Thanks for the memories old friend, may you find peace and many happy reunions with those who have gone on before.”

“Jon was both a supporter and champion of live music in Toronto. To a very kind and big hearted soul who will be missed. Rest in peace Jon Long," wrote John Dolan.

Jon’s friend Ben Richardson added, “My heart is full of sadness. Jon was one of the most generous, loving and supportive people I have ever met. Even though it’s been a few years since we talked, I will miss him terribly. Sail on buddy!”

The Long family tells CMT that funeral and visitation arrangements are in the works and we will share those details once they are confirmed.

CMT sends our deepest condolences to the Long family and all Jon’s family and friends.
