The fourth annual IMSTA FESTA Toronto show is approaching, taking place next Saturday, Oct. 14 at Ryerson University’s Rogers Communications Building (80 Gould St.) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Presented by the International Music Software Trade Association (IMSTA) and the SAE Institute, these free IMSTA FESTA events are also held in Chicago, New York, and Berlin and showcase the latest music-making and production technologies as well as educational seminars and keynotes speeches and Q&As.

Created for professional and semi-professional musicians, songwriters, music producers, and audio engineers, this free day-long event will feature panels, workshops and master classes, demonstrations, and more.

This year, Grammy-winning mix engineer Dave Pensado and veteran manager/executive producer Herb Trawick from Pensado’s Place will give the keynote presentation. With mix credits including Michael Jackson, Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, and more, Pensado is considered as one of the leading online educators for all things audio. Trawicks is an experienced manager and expert on intellectual property, business affairs, career consultation, digital media and more.

As well, musicians can join Spotify Canada’s Head of Artist and Label Services, Nathan Wiszniak, for an informal discussion on all things Spotify. Wiszniak will get musicians up to speed on the streaming audience in Canada, marketing opportunities for Canadian artists, and best practices on how to use the platform and grow a global fan base on Spotify.

14 IMSTA FESTAFor producers and engineers, Rich Chycki will give his “How I Mix” presentation. Chycki is an accomplished mixer, engineer and producer who has worked with the biggest and most recognized acts in the Rock and Roll dynasty. His sensitivity, knowledge and talent has let him to work with Aerosmith, Mick Jagger, Rush, Def Leppard, Seal, Pink, P. Diddy, and many more. Chycki will share his approach to mixing huge records.

This interactive “Cooking Beats” producer master class will be modelled after a live reality TV cooking show. Canadian beat maker FrancisGotHeat will show the IMSTA audience how to make a killer beat. For aspiring beatmakers and industry professionals who wonder how beats are made, this master class will pull back the curtain and show why Toronto beatmakers are among the best in the world. It’ll explore where ideas for beats come from, how to create a beat and what software can be used, what are the stages and growth of the beat, how to use and recreate samples, how do top-liners write over the beats, and more.

In addition to the master classes and other presentations, there will be more than 50 exhibitors showing the latest in producing, engineering, and music making technology.
