Steve’s Music Toronto and its co-sponsor, Boots and Bourbon Saloon, have announced the launch of the Steve’s Supports Country campaign with the goal of supporting emerging Canadian country artists and the country music scene in and around Toronto. The artist chosen to kick off the campaign is Mississauga, ON native Alessia Cohle, who has just released her debut single, “Sunday Shoes,” to country radio, as well as her debut EP, *Let’s Get Gone. *Cohle’s Ontario summer tour kicks off with a performance at Steve’s Music Toronto’s first Country Day Showcase on Saturday, June 6. The event will take place from 12-5 p.m. (performances begin at 3p.m.) at Steve’s Music’s flagship Queen Street West location. Alessia Cohle will be performing three songs and will share the stage with other up and coming artists of all genres, as Steve’s continues to support all artists and all genres of music. The inaugural festivities will include the official unveiling of “Steve’s Country Corner’ while displaying Canadian Cowboy Magazine in support of Steve’s Country Corner, all in conjunction with Dorrian Promotions.
“I’m so excited about this summer campaign. Steve’s Music Store wanted to acknowledge up and coming country artists because there’s really no place in the city for that to happen. Tomorrow we are unveiling the Steve’s Country Corner and there will be performances and other exciting things about this campaign that we’re going to announce after tomorrow kicks off,” Cohle tells CMT.
It was Cohle’s breakout single, “Sunday Shoes,” that really caught the organizers’ attention. Ruth Dorey at Dorrian Promotions says that while working on a project with singer-songwriter Stephen Lawrence last fall, he introduced her to country music tracker Andrea Morris of AMtoFM.com, Morris had brought Cohle to her attention and said she is the perfect singer-songwriter to launch the Steve’s Supports Country campaign. Dorey is also quick to give credit to Steve’s Music Kevin Parker for working with her to put together this campaign to help emerging songwriters and also thanks Mike Kirman “for seeing our vision on this project.”
“Ruth heard the song [‘Sunday Shoes’] and she said to me, ‘I knew that I wanted you and your voice to be on this project.’ I’m so thankful,” says Cohle.
Performances between 3-5 p.m. during ‘Steve’s Country Day’ on Saturday June 6th will be broadcast live on CIUT 89.5 FM. Cohle’s set will start at 3:05 p.m.
Cohle’s Let’s Get Gone EP release party, which is also sponsored by Steve’s Music, will be taking place at the Boots and Bourbon Saloon in Toronto on June 24th.
